The Nature of the Beast

Dean James is winding up his moribund private detective career when he is offered a job he cannot allow anyone else to undertake. Local tough Johnny Johnson is in intensive care after a severe beating and the police give the case low priority; as with 99% of the population of the town they are just glad to see him off the streets. Only Johnny`s brother, Billy, is taking up the campaign to find out the hows and whys.

Billy foists the case onto James and despite his fear, he is only too glad to take it. If only because the case must never be solved. Or at least the true pattern of events must be hidden to save himself and those close to him.

On his way to muddying the facts, James uncovers more and more dirt, filth and guilty secrets under the soiled surface of his town and he has to prevent them getting under his skin. Those with blood on their hands will find it hard to come out of this without being tainted for life.

A pacy, humourous, but dark reflection on how power corrupts and lies live on longer than you think. The action twists and turns like fusilli as James and his friends fight to make sense of this modern life and put the past away forever.
